Abstract: | This study examined the nexus between public agricultural expenditure, agricultural output and economic growth in Nigeria with time series data spanning 1986-2022 using data from National Bureau of Statistics, World Development Indicators and Food and Agricultural Organization Statistical Database. The study employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model to analyze the data. It was found that both agricultural credit and agricultural government expenditure have a significant positive impact on economic growth only in the short run. However, agriculture output was found to be positive and significant on economic growth both in the short run and long run. Based on the findings, the study recommended that government should increase its spending on agriculture especially during periods of economic slowdown or crisis in order to stimulate economic growth. In addition, Credit facilities should be provided for farmers, especially in the short term. This will have a significant positive impact on economic growth. |
